From the weblogs: a fearful precedent
Each day we bring you a Times Online weblog entry. Today, William Rees-Mogg finds much to fear in the pending extradition of the "Natwest Three", British bankers accused of helping Enron commit fraud:
"This case is obviously damaging to British interests. I hope that Americans also realise how damaging it could be to American interests. It has created a wide impression that a business mistake with some U.S. connection, or perhaps the fraud of a business colleague, may completely destroy a foreign businessman’s career, and deprive him of his freedom for years before he is tried. People were already afraid of the cost and complexity of U.S. business law. They are more afraid now."
